Rights of the Child by Teresa Dunlop

Ceramic Black Stoneware ^6 Oxidation with slip and glaze. There are 9 small plates that are part of a series based on the Rights of the Child from the United Nations. The plate form is used because of its association with food, family and nurture. Each plate has a phrase on it from the Convention in Braille because children with special needs are the most vulnerable. A black clay body has been used as it reminded me of the black boards of elementary school. There is a white slip and and a white glaze over the surface creating several layers of muted gray because nothing is black and white when it comes the to needs of children.
